This Elegant wedding in the city of Brisbane at QAGOMA started somewhere...
We met on Tinder in 2016. However, we both lied to our parents at the time so as to not worry them about the novel world of online introductions. Liz told her parents that we met in a library. Tim told his parents that we met at Caxton Street after a Reds game. We met in person for the first time at the now closed Spring: Cafe in Brisbane.

Beautiful ceremony hosted at the State Library of Queensland.
Flowers: Avalon Florals

Tell us about your lives together …
We have had many adventures together - largely involving the sand and sea. We travelled up the coast of Queensland during the pandemic enjoying sunrises at Cape Hillsborough and sunsets at Palm Cove. We love our day trips and weekends away at the Gold Coast and our mini-moon was no exception - we spent the week at Burleigh Heads. Our “official” honeymoon will be something entirely different - we are going to Europe! In the wintertime!
We also recently adopted an 11 year old Corgi X Cairn Terrier named Bessie who has brought immeasurable joy into our lives.

What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage means enduring curiosity about, and the promise to find joy and peace with one another.

Make us laugh, make us cry: who proposed to who, and how?
Traditionally, Tim asked Liz’s parents’ permission to propose.
The proposal weekend fell quite close to Tim and Liz’s anniversary of being together so Liz did not suspect that the beautiful lunch at SameSame and weekend away at the Sofitel that Tim had planned was for a proposal.
In fact, she had discussed with Tim that she wanted to wait until the busy work period was over to celebrate their anniversary. Apparently, the ring was burning a hole in Tim’s pocket.
After a wonderful lunch, Tim sidled into the hotel bathroom and reappeared with his hands behind his back. Still, it was only when Tim began his proposal speech that Liz realised what was unfolding. Tim’s beautiful words of love made them both cry and of course it was an instant yes.
The surprises did not end there as Tim had arranged for both of their immediate families to meet them in the lobby bar for a celebratory champagne. “Thank goodness she said yes” they joked but there was truly no doubt about that. Tim had arranged for Liz’s parents who were living in Perth at the time and his sister who lives in Melbourne to discreetly fly into Brisbane for the engagement. Liz was overjoyed to see her parents, sister-in-law-to-be and wider family waiting for them. Tim executed the perfect proposal and unforgettable surprise for Liz.

Why did you
choose the
State Library
& QGOMA?
We knew we needed a venue that could accommodate about 130 people which does automatically rule out a few venues.
We also knew we wanted the wedding to feel easy for our guests - nothing remote or “destination”.
Being born and raised in Brisbane, it felt natural to find a venue in the city.

With all these criteria considered, the State Library and QAGOMA (and in particular the Watermall where the reception was held) almost fell into our laps and felt too good to be true.

What was the inspiration behind your wedding style and where did you gather your inspiration from?

We wanted a classic, timeless style for our wedding. Key elements like Tim’s off white tuxedo jacket, the 1950s and 1960s post-ceremony jazz, Liz’s sheer gloves and the English roses in our floral design felt like such enduring motifs for a wedding that could be placed in 1950, 1990 or 2023!

Did you incorporate any traditions or perhaps do something a little different?
Liz’s something old was her late Nanna’s perfume which has now been discontinued - Rose Essentielle by Bvlgari. She wanted to ensure that her Nanna’s presence was felt with her all day.

What was your ‘first dance’ song?
She’s The One - XXV version by Robbie Williams

Was there a favourite/funny/most memorable moment of the day?
Liz’s favourite moment was the first dance. She was anxious that the train of her dress would impede her ability to dance with any elegance however it only added to the beauty of the moment. Tim and Liz managed to hit all their moves and finish with a dip! Nailed it.

Tell us about your dress/suit choices …
Liz wore the Lou-Lou Elizabeth gown from Karen Willis Holmes. As soon as she put on that dress, she knew
